You could contact lenders directly – there are many to choose from. Most are accessible from the Internet and it is always tempting to visit the one you saw on television or a high street name…. Advertising promises great deals on the surface; cashback, free legal fees etc. Always check the small print. It is advisable to identify someone you can ring for updates and answer questions (once your mortgage is being processed). Some lenders are notoriously slow and bureaucratic. Tied Agents – are paid by life, pensions or insurance companies to sell you their products. As a result they are not legally allowed to discuss other products on the market. They are usually found based amongst estate agents. They are NOT independent. Financial Internet Portals – an excellent way to compare like-for-like products in terms of rates, features and background information. Although not the same as an open discussion with a human advisor, these sites provide enormous amounts of information, quickly to suit you.
